This rare Shelley Coffee Cup & Saucer in the Ludlow shape is decorated in the 2348 Floral Sprays pattern with green to handle & edge. Dimensions: Cup: 5.5cm H x 6cm across rim Saucer: 12cm
The 2348 pattern number was entered into Shelley’s pattern book in February 1957; the letter D will be either the paintress or lithographer’s mark. As the pattern number starts with the No. 2, this denotes that the ware & pattern is “Seconds ware”, which means there would be a small fault on the ware, although to the untrained eye, this is hard to spot.
With Shelley the value in the rarity of a piece usually combines the shape & pattern of the piece, which this duo doesn’t have. However this cup & saucer is rare as Shelley didn’t produce a lot of Seconds ware & there aren’t many pieces available today.
