RARE VINTAGE HORROCKSES PLAYING CARDS – 1960s
This rare 1960s double-deck of Horrockses playing cards were manufacturerd in Australia & come with their original box. The cards will appeal to vintage clothing fashionistas, as the cards were produced by the English company Crewdson & Co. Ltd, to promote their range of quality fabrics & world famous Horrockses Fashions. They are from my family collection & were purchased by my grandfather when he worked for the iconic Georges department store in Melbourne. Georges was known for its elegance, quality merchandise & fashions. The photo gallery image (source: public domain) shows the store circa 1913 – 1920.
Horrockses dresses were worn by many high profile clients, such as Winston Churchill’s wife & Vivien Leigh and in 1953, the Queen selected 10 Horrockses dresses that were worn on her Commonwealth tour. (source: BBC)
Notes on condition:
- The green deck is in excellent condition, while the brown deck has age-related wear;
- the box has wear commensurate with age and use.
