This white-metal medal was issued to commemorate Victoria & Melbourne’s centenaries 1934-35 & was given to Victorian school children. The medal references Portland, the location of Victoria’s first settlement. The Henty brothers, entrepreneur farmers & whalers, established the state’s first permanent European settlement in Portland in 1834. Melbourne was established the following year by a party of settlers led by John Batman. (source: museums victoria) Dimensions: 3cm
The medal comes with its original red, white & blue ribbon & has been in my family collection since being presented to a family member in 1937.
