Matching pair of genuine antique Staffordshire King Charles Spaniel ‘Wally’ Dogs.
This pair are wonderful examples of Staffordshire dogs with particularly endearing expressions; cream in colour and decorated with brushstrokes in flecks of gold over the front of the body. There is crazing present which adds to their charm and they have their collar and chain with padlock. Their tails are curled around their back legs at the base.
The dogs are by L & Sons (Ltd) (Lancaster & Sons) Hanley with the backstamp dating them to c1920. L & Sons pottery was located in Hanley, which was a part of ‘The Staffordshire Potteries’ that covers the 6 towns that make up what is now Stoke-on-Trent.
We have priced the dogs to reflect the minor damage noted below. Also, to ship the dogs, due to their size, weight and extremely delicate nature, they will require extra packaging and insurance and as such this has been included in the price.
IMPORTANT NOTES ON CONDITION (please refer carefully to the photos which show the damage as described below)
- The dog on the right of the pair is missing one of its glass eyes.
- The dog on the left of the pair has a hairline crack near the hole on the base; the crack is on the base only and does not extend to the body of the dog or detract from the overall look.
- There is some minor rubbing to the paint around the muzzle.
In spite of the above, the dogs are in very good to excellent condition.
Dimensions: 26.5cm high x 15cm across the base
